Yazid ibn Hurmaz reported: Najda wrote a letter to Ibn Abbas asking him about killing children. He wrote back saying, “You wrote to me and asked me about killing children. Awf ibn Malik reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, while there were seven, or eight, or nine of us and he said, “Will you not give your pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?” We had recently given our pledge, so we said, “We have given you our pledge of allegiance,” but he said it again three times, so we offered our hands and pledged allegiance to him again. Someone said, “O Messenger of Allah, we have already given you our pledge, so what are we pledging to now?” The Prophet said, “That you worship Allah and do not associate any partners with Him; that you pray for five prayers; that you listen and obey,” and then he said something very softly, “And that you do not ask people for anything.” Indeed, some of those people obeyed this to the extent that if his whip were to fall from his mount, he would not ask anyone to hand it to him. [Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Alms, Number 1642, Sahih]

Iyad ibn Himar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was delivering a sermon and he said, “Verily, my Lord has commanded me that I should teach you that which you do not know and which He has taught me today. He says: All wealth which I have bestowed upon them is lawful; I have created all of My servants naturally inclined to worship one God but it is the devils who turn them away from their religion; they make unlawful for them what has been made lawful for them, and they command them to associate partners with Me, although no authority has been revealed for them. Indeed, Allah looked at the people of the earth and He detested them, their Arabs and their foreigners, except for what remained of the people of the Book.” [Sahih Muslim, Book 40, Number 6853]
